The “Villages Nature” project, promoted by Euro Disney and Pierre & Vacances and developed by EPAFRANCE, is an innovative tourist destination concept founded on the quest for harmony between people and nature.
The “Villages Nature” project in Val d’Europe is all about a new European-wide tourist destination founded on the interaction with nature and representing an unusual sustainable development model in terms of tourism. It will offer short- and mid-term stays.
Seeking harmony between people and nature
Villages Nature aims at exploring the idea of interacting with nature, as expressed through multiple activities: a geothermal lagoon, theme gardens, riparian areas, hiking footpaths and horse riding paths, an organic farm, exploration trails, as well as culinary experiences and festivals related to the seasons. Renowned architects and landscape designers are collaborating on this project, slated to become the largest aquatic park in Europe.
A commitment in terms of sustainable development
The project will be established on a site abutting on a forest extending several thousand hectares, and will be located 6 km south of the Disneyland® Paris parks. This ecotourism concept, the only one of its kind in Europe, is intent on considerably reducing its ecological footprint through a highly ambitious sustainable action plan in 10 points: zero carbon, zero ultimate waste, sustainable transport, local and sustainable materials, sustainable water, natural habitat and wildlife, culture and heritage, local partnerships and fair trade, quality of life and well-being.
The site’s energy needs, including those of the aquatic park, will be supplied by ”deep” geothermal energy. Thanks to two wells bored to a depth of 1,800 metres, water naturally heated at 78°C will feed the heating network prior to being returned to the Dogger underground water table, without the slightest greenhouse gas emission ever occurring.
Project start-up
The project should unfold in several phases over a twenty-year period. The opening of the initial phase of Villages Nature, involving a surface area of 175 hectares, should take place in 2015. It will include 1,730 residences spread across three villages: two riparian villages and a forest village. Indoor and outdoor collective leisure facilities are also planned, covering a total surface area of 70,000 m².
Thanks to this project, 4,500 jobs, including 1,600 direct jobs, will be created.
