The Local Planning and Development Authority for Marne-la-Vallée has been involved in a sustainable development approach for some years now. With its eco-neighbourhood projects, segregated-lane public transport, sustainable tourism… in this regard, Marne-la-Vallée is a pilot city.
The State/Regional 2007-2013 contract provides support to six areas in the regional and national interest, including Marne-la-Vallée, in their work on ambitious development projects.
Among the sustainable local solutions promoted by the Ministry of Ecology, Sustainable Development, Transports and Housing (MEDTL), eco-neighbourhoods enjoy an enviable position.
Accordingly, eco-neighbourhoods in Bussy Saint-Georges and Montévrain have benefited from a framework contract formalising the partnership between the Government, the EPA and both municipalities. This boosted both the operations, which are among the 11 eco-neighbourhood projects in Marne-la-Vallée.

- Shared governance
Beyond their ecological aspect, eco-neighbourhoods give back its meaning to the idea of “living together”. Within that perspective, eco-neighbourhood projects use a mode of governance that involves the various stakeholders and fosters cooperation.
Accordingly, in Bussy Saint-Georges and Montévrain, the teams in charge of project design and implementation include engineers from both the municipality and the EPAs.
In Bussy Saint-Georges, this technical work is first defined during meetings with the partners in collaborative theme workshops, and then approved by a steering committee grouping municipal elected officials, the Managing Director of EPAMARNE/EPAFRANCE and associate area partners.
